Used with a down jacket for summit days on high peaks or for staying warm when hanging around base camp.

- First Ascent is cut closer to the body for a great, active fit with no bunching or binding. It is built as a complete system. All pieces - outerwear, insulating layers and baselayer - are cut so the body and sleeve lengths of each successive layer are slightly longer than the one underneath.

Perfect pant for hanging around camp. PERMALOFT is great, light weight and warm. Well made, they didn't tear as I thought they might after scraping trees, and branches when gathering wood around camp. In a windy situation, I was glad that the zippers were not full zip. They unzip on the sides, up the whole pant except for 2" at the top. They went over my boots with ease. A must have for cold trips. I have the matching jacket too. No more big down suit. Just throw a shell over them and your good to go anywhere.

Pretty Warm.
Light.
packable.
much tougher than expected. They don't tear very easily.
Kept me very dry after sitting in snow for a few hours building a snow cave. No moisture buildup in the insulation as far as I could tell. Retained all insulating value.
Taking them for winter climbing in the Tetons this January.
Cons:
not down
not full zip (I'm worried about putting these on when I've got crampons on)
first ascent sizing is inconsistent. I can't fit into the softshell size medium (I'm 6'1" 185) (my thighs and butt are WAY too big) but the large in the Igniter pant swallow me up.
