Warm, versatile midlayer
A fleece jacket with amazing range: protects you from the wind, breathes when you're working hard and moves when you're climbing fast. Great versatility in one jacket.

"I wore this most days on Everest in 2009, quite often without needing a shell. Great styling and warmth. This is probably my favorite First Ascent piece." -Ed Viesturs

  • First Ascent is cut closer to the body for a great, active fit with no bunching or binding. It is built as a complete system. All pieces - outerwear, insulating layers and baselayer - are cut so the body and sleeve lengths of each successive layer are slightly longer than the one underneath.

I purchased this as a mid-layer for the mountains and as an around town fleece when not out on the mountains. In both situations it is incredible. Fits me perfectly even though a lot of FA gear seems to run small. It does an amazing job at cutting the wind for a fleece and it's exceptionally warm as well as breathable. I don't think I've come across a better fleece.

Nicely designed jacket, but sizing is very odd. The jacket is NOT a slim fit as noted. I'm 5'9", 155 lbs, and a small is too large. The chest is sized correctly, then the stomach and waist area flairs out about 4". The result is an extra 2" of material that gets in the way of layering or waring a pack. The sleeves are also a bit on the long side. I am a 33" sleeve and there is a little extra room. Oddly enough the cloudlayer 1/4 zip fits in a size medium.
