- First Ascent is cut closer to the body for a great, active fit with no bunching or binding. It is built as a complete system. All pieces - outerwear, insulating layers and baselayer - are cut so the body and sleeve lengths of each successive layer are slightly longer than the one underneath.

Best all around jacket I've used so far. Good breathability, wind resistance, heat retention and water resistance. Extremely light weight and packs small. If you are looking for great gear that is made to todays standards and technology, you can't go wrong with First Ascent.

My favorite "go to" jacket for mountaineering, trekking, or simply around town when conditions are drizzly. Perfect fit and great placement of softshell and hardshell materials, allowing for the body core areas to have more breathable layering, while the shoulder and lower portion of the body to have more durable environmentally resilient materials. Jacket works well with climbing harness. I found the jacket perfect for climbing on Mt Rainier, ascending up the winter route of Mt St Helens, and the summit of Mt Adams. Even when my body was overheating from the grinding ascents, this jacket provided the necessary protection while providing superb breathability. This is my jacket of choice when I go to the mountains. I look forward to taking this jacket next year to Alaska.

I love this jacket very warm, but breaths very well. The jacket also repels water very well, the day that I got this jacket my town was hit by a deluge that I was working outside during, the jacket kept me dry and also allowed my sweat to evaporate. The jacket was very pricey normally, I found it on clearance so the price wasn't an issue for me. I cant wait for winter to really test this in cold weather.

Great, great jacket. The first thing you notice is how light it is, only weighing in at about a pound. It stretches well, but fits tightly where it needs to. Kept me warm in a whiteout at 12,200' on Denali, yet breathed well enough to hike in much lower on the mountain. The waterproof shoulders and arms work great, and the same material around the waist sheds any snow from the rope or harness. Definitely a piece that will see a lot of use.
