These are what our Guides wear on Rainier. And ice climbing, ski touring, skate skiing and general mountaineering. Built with a lighter Schoeller fabric than our regular Mountain Guide Pants, the "Lites" also feature the 3XDRY finish for superior water-resistance, breathability and quick drying. Four-way stretch ensures that you've got full range of motion on that gnarly ice pitch. Machine wash.

  • First Ascent is cut closer to the body for a great, active fit with no bunching or binding. It is built as a complete system. All pieces - outerwear, insulating layers and baselayer - are cut so the body and sleeve lengths of each successive layer are slightly longer than the one underneath.

I bought the First Ascent Guide Lite pants for my climb on Mt. Rainier. I've been training in them and I love them. I bought a small and they fit great. I'm 5'4" and 120 lbs. I love that they stretch with you as you climb, but yet they don't stretch too much to fall off - which my other brand did. I also love the belt option. The pockets are great for storing your GU chomps or a granola bar, too. I'm really glad I bought these.

Love them! Comfortable, well-designed pants made with quality materials. Stretch when you need it, but not when you don't (I agree with another reviewer who points out that they don't start sagging on day 2... or 3). I think they're a little more "womanly" cut than I like- if you don't have muscular thighs and bum be prepared for a little sagging in back, but nothing major. Perfect over a base layer or alone, which makes them versatile in multiple seasons! Definitely my new favorite pants... they've been skiing, cross-country snowshoeing, hiking, backpacking, etc and I have no complaints!

These are nice pants, but they fit like jeans. They weren't really what I was looking for. I love Schoeller fabrics, and have decent luck with Eddie Bauer, but the combo didn't come together for me in these pants. They are trim in the thighs with a bootcut leg and are boy cut at the top. I fit in Mammuts much better for practical purposes. I have a trim but hourglass figure with a rounded posterior, and these would not accomodate it very well. I love my Mammut Champ Pants and will stick with those and recommend them if you're built like me. If my purpose was looking cute, the Moutain Guide Pants do look really really cute on from behind--like jeans--but that's not why I bought them.

Fantastic pant! I've worn it for everything from glacier travel on Rainier to mixed climbing elsewhere in the Cascades. The fit is trim but not tight on an athletic (read muscular thighs) body, with features in all the right places: adjustable snap cuffs let me dispense with gaiters--or even roll up the pants; thigh pockets hold all my essentials (lip protection, compass, snacks, etc.); and the waistband sits comfortably under a harness--not overly high in the front, but plenty of coverage on the backside where it needs to be. I also love the fabric: it stretches every way I do without sagging, so no second-day wardrobe malfunctions en route. Plus, it breathes remarkably well, so I can go from alpine start through afternoon scorch and still feel comfortable. I've had a hard time finding a pant that I like since my old favorite began to disintegrate. I was skeptical about an unfamiliar brand, but the Mountain Guide Light has exceeded my expectations. It is a well-designed, durable pant worthy of many climbing adventures.
