Too much gear is overbuilt, when all that's needed is for it to be built right. Big Tahoma. No bells and whistles, just every essential. Equal to the harshest punishment. Comfortable, too, with its fully adjustable suspension system that's tailored specifically for women (but maintains the same high capacity 70 liters as the men's). What First Ascent Guide Melissa Arnot wears on Rainier and all her other 2-3 day climbs.

"A women's pack isn't just a smaller men's pack. Women have different dimensions. Considering the number of days I spend carrying a pack, it has to fit." Melissa Arnot

Pack Frame Size
Your correct frame size is found by measuring your torso from the seventh vertebra (the big bump where the shoulder slope meets the neck) down the spine to the point in the small of your back which is horizontally level with the top of your hip bones (iliac crest). To find the iliac crest, use your fingers to trace the hip bone upwards until you can feel the point where the top edge of your hip bones curve inwards, on the side of your hip, creating something of a shelf. Holding your finger on the seventh vertebra, measure down your back to the point in the small of your back level with your iliac crest. The measurement is most easily obtained using a string or a cloth tape and help from a friend. This is your torso length, and using it, you can now select the correct frame size.

I rented this pack from RMI for my Rainier climb and was disappointed. It does not do a good job of transferring weight to my hips, leaving my shoulders and back to do a disproportionate amount of the hauling. At first I thought, I must have adjusted this wrong - but even after I repacked some things to optimize internal weight distribution and after my guides (who work for the same company that designs this!) helped me readjust the pack, I was STILL having problems with it. I was not alone either as someone else in my group was having similar problems, also with the women's pack. I spoke with someone from RMI after the trip who said they are redesigning the pack to address some of those issues, so hopefully the next generation will be much better! One thing I did really like about this pack is how minimalist it is - narrower straps, smaller clasps, and not a single unnecessary zip or loop.
