The perfect outer layer for all mountain activities-especially in snowy, windy conditions. It's all about the smart use of performance fabrics for peak efficiency. At the shoulders, a 3-layer waterproof/breathable hardshell barrier (rated to 20,000mm/20,000g). In the body, a breathable, quick-drying softshell with 4-way stretch. Windproof throughout. The hood accommodates a helmet. And the easy run zippers never leave you tugging to get it on or off. Machine wash. Precision layering.

"I have always gone with either a hardshell or a softshell jacket, but this jacket has the perfect combo suitable for almost anything the mountain can throw at you." - Melissa Arnot

  • First Ascent is cut closer to the body for a great, active fit with no bunching or binding. It is built as a complete system. All pieces - outerwear, insulating layers and baselayer - are cut so the body and sleeve lengths of each successive layer are slightly longer than the one underneath.

I LOVE this jacket... packs down like a dream (into it's hood, no less), yet is a rather substantial outer layer. Breathes well-- no complaints from me. has been worn in light snow and drizzle, and it did not absorb water. I like that the collar can be worn multiple ways, and the sleeves are long enough to cover base layers, even on my "tall" arms. (I'm not tall, but my arms seem to be LOL). I have the dark purple color, and it's beautiful... not too bright, not too drab.
