Made for expedition use, the Peregrine's wider hood opening provides extra comfort during extended tent-bound conditions. On the Himalayan peaks the Peregrine (used with down clothing) has kept climbers warm at 40 below, caught without a shelter at 28,000 feet. In Alaska, the Peregrine has been the most popular mummy bag for expeditions on just about every peak.

Pertex® Shield EX Pertex® Shield EX is a relatively new fabric and also makes use of a PU coating but with a slightly different chemical compound that offers full water proof performance while still coming in under 2 oz/sq yd. The waterproof and breathable features combined with the weight and durability makes this the perfect fabric for Expedition sleeping bags. The fabrics that Feathered Friends uses are all highly water-resistant and breathable. The Pertex Shield shells are waterproof, however the construction is not. They don't tape any of the seams in sleeping bags or the jackets/parkas.

A note on sleeping bag sizing

When selecting a sleeping bag, the length and girth are the most important roles in warmth and comfort. If there is too much room at your feet, it is very difficult for your feet heat the excess air to a comfortable temperature. If your bag is too short, it is difficult to stretch out and sleep comfortably. Although gear storage is a factor in some cases when selecting length, it is advisable to select a bag closest to your actual length.

The most common issue when selecting the proper girth is efficiency versus comfort. The wider the girth, the more comfortable and roomy the bag but it is also less efficient. Consider selecting a bag that can allow a comfortable yet most efficient interior space. This way you can assure many comfortable nights of sleep so the following day your body can operate at its optimum ability.

Great bag! Clearly the premier bag in this temperature range. I've got a WM Gore Windstopper bag. This one is the clear winner. The external fabric seems to be more durable than the GWS. At zero degrees, this bag is slightly warm. I had to keep the top open a bit to stay comfortable. I'm 6'3", 225 with about a 46" chest and this bag fits perfectly. Finally a great cold weather bag for those of us who are bigger than the rest!
