Our Favorite Ski Jacket This Past Winter

The Swelter rides cold chair lifts like a champ, keeps you warm while watching an alpine sunrise, and covers all the right places when the cold hits. Extra length in the torso keeps your butt warm sitting on a pack or riding a lift. Stretchy cuffs slide over gloves easily, and the helmet-compatible hood fits over both climbing and skiing helmets. And we think it’s pretty cool that the Power Fill™ insulation is made with 80% post-consumer recycled content.

  • Function: Midweight insulating piece that keeps body heat up when outside temps drop. When sweltering is a good thing.
  • Layering: Wear this jacket alone or over 2-3 slim layers.

if you don't have super tiny arms, don't buy this

Jacket fits my body just fine but I can't bend my arms and I'm not even wearing layers. I won't be keeping it. I think this company needs to seriously reevaluate the way they fit their clothes. I've never had this issue with other outdoor brands. very disappointed.

Love this jacket

I have only had the jacket a couple of months but so far so great. I take it on all of my cold-weather hiking and snow adventures, will take it on my overnights, and also wear it just walking the dog in the park. It’s warm and I love the cuffed sleeves and oversized hood. Packable. Lightweight. Fits well under my shell. Nice pockets and solid zippers. Perfect length. Comfortable. I have zero complaints, which has been the case with every piece of Bight gear I have purchased.

Swelter Jacket

I’m 5 ft 9 in, 120 lbs, and purchased the Swelter in a size medium. I have pretty small arms, and couldn’t believe how tight the arms were. I felt like I was wearing blood pressure cuffs. In contrast, the waist/body was huge. Beautiful color, good length, and awesome material, but sadly not for me. Customer service was great.

warmer than montbell

Normally wear mediums in other brands but the large fits me well. It's very pretty and its my replacement for my 10 year old montbell jacket. I like the shape and warmth better. I've used it spring ski touring for the descent. It will be my go to mountaineering jacket.
5'6" and 152 lbs.

Overall good jacket

I haven't had a chance to test-drive this in the mountains (thanks COVID), but so far, here are my impressions.
Likes:
-The elastic cuffs are great and fit easily over gloves
-length is nice and long even on a long torso.
-pockets are all in just the perfect, functional place, all deep.
-Very quality construction.
-Fit is cut for wider shoulders and comfortable.

Dislikes:
-I wish there were a tad more stretch through the shoulders. It's not bad, but it would be more functional with added give for movement.
-It's definitely not as warm or compressive as my down puffy, so don't expect it to fill that niche.

Overall, it's a really well-constructed jacket. it'll be a go-to for around town, backpacking in the wetter seasons, and brisk mornings. My down puffy will still be my go-to insulation for anything alpine.
