Black Diamond hit the bullseye with the Mission 75. This pack has everything I need for climbing: easy to use crampon and ice axe attachments, a comfortable and strong suspension system and the ability to cinch it down for shorter trips and summit day. This is the most comfortable pack I own, even when its fully loaded.

Easy to use pack

I like that there are few compartments, it holds a healthy load, and it's light. I organize things in group bags and then put them into the pack, so the one large compartment is good for me. I tend to carry for many contingencies, so the volume is good for me. Since the pack itself is light, I don't worry about carrying for more contingencies. For those times that I don't use a water bladder I will tend to drink less with this pack because I'll have to open it to get to water. I like the attachments for crampons, ice axes, etc.

Use Situation: I've used it for hauling gear to climbing crags.

I bought this last year for general mountaineering and Rainier in particular. I really like the "cylinder" profile, which seems to carry better and protects all my clothing/gear. I used the RMI guides method of taking off the lid to use as a snack/small items pocket, stuffing it in the top of the pack. I only had about 35 pounds to carry but could easily have stuffed another 20 pounds worth of gear into it. The hipbelt and strap system was comfortable. I like the metal ice axe loop, very different from the norm but worked well. You just have to remember to pull up and secure the cord at the top, or else someone will find your axe on the glacier way behind you. The material is extra tough and abrasion resistant. I give it a 4.5 peak rating. Good job, BD
