Your Buying Guide For

Gloves & Mittens

The right glove system is the difference between swapping carabiners with feeling or fumbling with numb hands. Start with a three-glove approach, then fine tune for your route, weather, and dexterity needs.

Still have questions? Feel free to reach out!

What is the three glove system?

It means carrying lightweight, midweight, and heavyweight gloves or mitts so you can match protection to conditions. Light gloves handle warm climbs and high dexterity tasks. Midweights add insulation for upper mountain cold. Heavyweight gloves or mitts are your storm and summit insurance when warmth matters most.

When should I choose mittens over gloves?

Mittens are ideal for the coldest situations because shared finger space retains heat better than separated fingers. They are common for winter, summit pushes, and blizzard conditions. Many climbers carry both gloves and mitts and switch based on temperature and wind.

What fit and materials should I look for?

Aim for a secure fit that preserves blood flow and fine motor control. Leather palms and backs offer durability and wind resistance, and can be re-proofed over time. Make sure the glove still lets you clip, tie, and adjust with confidence
