Forbidden Peak

RMI's Forbidden Peak climb is a four-day Level 4 ascent of the West Ridge — one of the Fifty Classic Climbs of North America. The route crosses a small glacier below the South Face, climbs the West Ridge Couloir on 40–50 degree snow and ice with mid-fifth-class rock, then traverses the exposed ridge to the 8,630-foot summit. A 2:1 climber-to-guide ratio and prior expedition-skills-seminar experience are required.

Rent boots, crampons, helmet, harness, ice axe, and belay device from our Ashford shop. Forbidden's gear list is leaner than a multi-day Rainier seminar but the technical pieces matter more — every carabiner, sling, and prusik gets used on the exposed ridge. Bring your own broken-in boots if you have them; rent if not.

The list includes the standard mountaineering kit plus the technical extras a Class-5 alpine rock route demands — slings, belay device, locking carabiners, climbing helmet, and a 50+ liter pack that compresses well for the rock pitches.
