Left on the shelf
Practically new — likely never worn outside. Recent gear within the last 5 years, preferably with original tags.

This piece has had a previous life — see the tier system below for what to expect.
Tiers describe the level of wear a used item has. Because the gear we carry is so dang solid, it can go through quite a bit of cosmetic abuse before it stops performing as it should. We will make sure the gear you buy from us meets your expectations and functions as designed, whether new or used. That's why we've come up with a 4-tier rating system for our used gear: Admired, Liked, Loved, and Adored.

The Outdoor Research Direct Route II Glove is built for the long days when your hands take the brunt of the work. A polyester–spandex shell delivers breathable stretch and light warmth without sacrificing dexterity, while a goat leather palm with split suede reinforcement shields against endless belays and rappels. Minimal fingertip seams extend durability, and a carabiner loop keeps the gloves clipped to your harness between pitches. Designed for climbers who live on the wall, these gloves keep you protected and precise through every crux, jug, and jam.
Condition: This is a used item from our rental fleet. It has been inspected to ensure full functionality, but may have internal numbering written with a permanent marker. Please see our Used Gear Policy Page for details on our return policy for these items.

Gear Cache
All items that were once part of our rental fleet will be numbered with black sharpie on the inside, regardless of condition. If you have further questions, feel free to check our Gear Cache page, or contact us! Also, keep in mind our return policy is different for Used gear!
Shop All Gear CacheThe Gear Cache is our "experienced" (a.k.a used) gear section. That means it's also home to the best stories and biggest discounts (from30-90% off) in our store. Most of the gear comes from our rental program and the guides over at RMI Expeditions, which means that it has usually seen only about a season's worth of use, and gives you an excuse to say your boots have been to the top of Rainier. Plus, it means you get to follow one of the 3 Rs in sustainability; reuse!

Even though this gear has seen previous adventures, each item meets rigorous standards. We ensure every piece functions just as intended—no compromises on performance. You won’t find any 'junk' here; only gear that's ready for many more expeditions.

Our Rating System
Mountain gear is built to last. It can take years of cosmetic wear before performance is affected. Our 4-tier system tells you exactly what to expect from every piece. Functionality is guaranteed — regardless of tier.
Left on the shelf
Practically new — likely never worn outside. Recent gear within the last 5 years, preferably with original tags.
A few adventures
Light outdoor use, only worn a few times. Recent gear within the last 5 years with very light wear.
A full season out
Substantial outdoor use — about a full season. Clear evidence it's been used. Undoubtedly second-hand, but fully functional.
Many seasons of memories
Significantly broken in with multiple seasons of wear. May have minor cosmetic issues, but nothing that affects original functionality.
My MH Phantom Parka -Tier 2 arrived, and aside from there being a #16 written in, you would have never guessed this was a rental jacket. You can tell Whittaker takes care of their gear and rates it more than fairly for resale.
Used coat like new - Better than expected. no signs of previous use. great deal!
Jacket is in great condition-- practically new. The down lofts nicely and you can tell the jacket was well cared for. Shipping was quick and the price better than anything you could get on eBay or gear trade.
Love their system for used gear - although this was Tier 3, you really can't tell it had gone through much use.
I ordered tier 5 boots. They were surprisingly in better shape than I expected. A repair to the inside of the integrated gaiters was needed but after that the boots were ready to go for a few more seasons of climbing. Definitely worth it! Would buy again.
