Glacier Glasses
Glacier glasses are not just dark sunglasses. They are technical equipment designed for life at high altitude. Here are some quick answers to common questions.
Still have questions? Feel free to reach out!
What makes glacier glasses different from regular sunglasses?
Glacier glasses feature darker lenses, full side shields, and total UV protection to block reflected light from snow and ice. Regular sunglasses often let in peripheral glare, which can cause snow blindness at altitude.
Do I need glacier glasses or goggles?
Glacier glasses are perfect for climbing and travel in dry, sunny conditions, however they don't do a great job of blocking blowing snow. Goggles are better when you expect wind, snow, or extreme cold, but get sweaty when you're exerting yourself. Many climbers bring both and switch as conditions change.
What lens category should I choose?
Category 4 lenses (the darkest) are ideal for high-altitude use. They provide maximum UV and visible light protection but are too dark for driving or casual wear. Always check that your glacier glasses meet Category 4 or equivalent standards.
