The Polartec Power Dry fleece uses a gridded interior that traps warmth when you are standing still and wicks moisture efficiently once you start moving, so you can put it on at the trailhead and not be wrestling with it an hour later. The slim cut fits cleanly under a shell or over a base layer without bunching, and the under-the-helmet hood means you are not choosing between warmth and your climbing setup. It is not a standalone piece for serious cold, but that is not the point. When the temperature is hovering in that awkward zone and a puffy would be too much, this is the layer that keeps you in the right zone.
